Zinnia Pea + Beach + Sale!

25 Jan

I’ve moved house and studio again! And this time I’m living at the beach, just in time for the worst/best (depending on how you view it!) of the January and February heat. The above photo is the view from the end of my new street so you can see why I am quite excited!

It’s been a quick and easy move this time so there’s no delay for orders being posted out. In fact, I’m having a sale! 25% off all items in my Etsy shop for Facebook fans and blog readers. To receive the discount, enter the coupon code FBFAN25 at checkout and it will automatically apply your discount.

There’s a few new and exciting designs coming to my shops within the next couple of weeks. I’ll be announcing them here on my blog and on Facebook so stay tuned.

As for Lottie, she has been an absolute blessing and helped me through a very difficult time but I think the time might be close for us to go separate ways. She’s still at my sister’s property and I think I will be selling her from there. So if you know of anyone in the market for a fabulous vintage caravan (complete with bunting!) let me know. It’ll be very sad to say goodbye but I know I will find someone who needs her as much as I did when I first found her.

Here’s to a fabulous 2012!

Much love,

Christabel

Childhood Magic at Misty Hollow

10 Jan

I was fortunate to grow up in the Adelaide Hills, it’s a beautiful place with gorgeous scenery, parks and always lots going on.

One place that stands out in my mind from my childhood is Misty Hollow, a fantasy cave located in the Main Street of Hahndorf. I remembered it being the most amazing and magical place!

This past weekend, I was at Hahndorf and decided to re-live some memories and visit Misty Hollow.Image

It was just as I remembered it (except perhaps slightly smaller, or is it me who is slightly bigger?)! A winding path through a dark, fairy light lined cave with storybook creatures and scenes.

Image

It really is a magical place, and I love that it has been maintained and added to over so many years. The detail in the cave itself, and the scenes is amazing. You can feel how much work, and love has gone into creating it.Image

A pond runs along the path as well, and there are little bridges and walkways to cross.

If you’re ever in Hahndorf, I highly recommend visiting it. It’s $2 per person entry to the cave (at the back of the little toy shop) and well worth it.

Christabel

A New Shop

23 Nov

Hello lovelies!

It’s been too long since my last blog post. I’ve been super busy with lots of orders, markets and all kinds of wonderful things! I love the busy build up to Christmas!

As many of you know, last month I introduced my range of Literary Inspired Jewellery Designs. It’s been a fun adventure designing and creating wearable pieces around my favourite quotes.

I have opened a new shop on Madeit, to showcase my jewellery designs and I thought I would share some of the new photos here. My wonderful sister modelled my designs for the shoot, wearing some of our Grandmother’s 50′s vintage dresses. It was a lovely day and we had a lot of fun!

So, here are just a few of my new designs, as modelled by my gorgeous big sister (I’m so jealous of her hair colour, why didn’t I get that gene!)

Dance in the Rain Necklace

Jane Eyre Cameo Necklace

Oscar Wilde Vegetarian Necklace

The last necklace and quote is perhaps my favourite, despite being a vegetarian myself! I love Oscar Wilde and this is one of the quotes I love the most from him. The perfect necklace for a vegetarian with a sense of humour.

To see more of my Literary Inspired Designs visit my new shop here.. http://www.madeit.com.au/literarydesignbyzp. All the pieces come presented on a piece of recycled card with the quote that inspired them printed in typewriter font.

My hand inked china is still in my original shop and if you would like to purchase from both shops, just send me a message to combine the postage (postage on jewellery items becomes free with any china purchase!)

Much love to you,

Christabel xo

A Little Colour for Lottie

2 Nov

My little vintage caravan studio needed colour! So a visit to the op shop, the community nursery and a little look online was in order. A working bee to paint both the inside and the outside is a couple of weeks away but there’s no need to put off decorating till then!

Pot plants

I picked up a couple of little pot plants, daisies and a very pretty pelargonium and have popped them on a step beside the door. They need a little love (and bigger pots!).

Granny Square Rug

And this gorgeous granny square rug is perfect for the couch although Littlest Dog has her eye on it!

Colourful bunting

And what vintage caravan would be complete without some colourful bunting? I have some pretty lacy fabric bunting inside but found this fab plastic bunting on eBay. So colourful!

Lottie the Vintage Caravan

Have a fabulous day everyone!

Love,

Christabel (and Lottie!)

Surf, Sand and… Vintage Loveliness!

2 Nov

Can you tell I am a little excited about summer heading our way? After my blog post about vintage summer dresses (here) I somehow drifted into the vintage swimwear on Etsy.

50′s Swimsuit from Tomorrow Is Forever

Oh my! So much loveliness!

I love summer days at the beach, followed by summer evenings of eating hot chips and watching the sun go down. And of course you need a favourite pair of bathers that you can feel comfy in during the day, and throw a dress over at night.

50′s Swimsuit from Ginger Root Vintage

These gorgeous vintage bathers on Etsy recall days of sun, surf and fun from times gone by and I love that they probably hold memories of their own. I get a bit dreamy around vintage clothes and start to imagine what stories they could tell.

Yellow Romper from Dotto

Perhaps a short lived but oh so passionate summer romance? Stealing kisses on the sand, and longing for the summer to never end.

40′s Swimsuit from The Splendid Suitcase

Or a beach party with friends with a fire to warm up the chilly summer night?

60′s Swimsuit from Concettas Closet

*sigh* So many fabulous swimsuits!

Literary Inspired Jewellery Designs by Zinnia Pea

1 Nov

My range of literary inspired jewellery designs have launched in a brand new Madeit shop – Literary Designs by ZP.

"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." - Oscar Wilde

All the jewellery designs are inspired by quotes from classic literature, including the works of Lewis Carroll (Alice in Wonderland), Jane Austen (Pride and Prejudice) and Charlotte Bronte (Jane Eyre).

"She is too fond of books, and it has addled her brain." - Louisa May Alcott

Each necklace comes presented on a piece of recycled card with the inspiration quote printed onto it in typewriter font. They make a lovely and well presented gift for book lovers, or for a friend needing some words of wisdom!

"I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will." - Charlotte Bronte

My hand inked china and my removable wall tiles are in my original shop, Zinnia Pea and I am excited about some new china designs which will be listed next week.

You can visit my new jewellery shop here!

Much love,

Christabel

Summer, dresses and Etsy… Oh my!

31 Oct

The weather is warming up here and I’ve been keeping an eye out for fun dresses and tops for this summer. I’m feeling good about myself lately. I’m exercising and eating better than I have for years and I want this summer to be fun, bright and happy!

I can lose myself for ages browsing the vintage dresses on Etsy. The patterns and styles are all so different and I always end up hearting more than a few items.

Here are some of the dresses I’m currently lusting after..

1950s Pink and Green Party Dress from The Splendid Suitcase

1960′s Pink Sun Dress from Coldfish

Flower Wrap Dress from Clementines Boutique

Yellow 1960s Babydoll Dress from The Arbor Vitae

1960s Blue Dress from Vijolica Vintage

Oh, prettiness overload!

Which one is your favourite?

Fire at Mount Alma

30 Oct

Just up the road from me is a beautiful conservation park on Mount Alma. It’s full of life, with kangaroos, echnidas and many types of birds calling it home. It’s a great place to walk and relax, and it’s also where I often drive when I feel like getting out and finding somewhere peaceful.

Last week whilst working in Lottie I noticed smoke looming over the hill. It’s was a nasty dark looking smoke and I immediately checked out the CFS website. They had an alert for the area and were advising people to start their bushfire action plan. Phone calls to neighbours and the property owners bordering the park followed. Thankfully the amazing CFS workers got the fire under control before it spread any further.

This morning I drove through Mount Alma for the first time since the fire and was shocked to see the beautiful area blackened and scarred. It’s also a reminder of the coming fire season and the need to prepare before it arrives.

I’ve heard from neighbours that the fire seemed to be deliberately lit which really leaves me speechless. I will never understand how anyone could want to cause the damage and fear that bushfires create.

Stay safe, and alert, this summer everyone.

Love,

Christabel
